Alongside my writing and teaching, I offer critical reading and creative consultancy services for writers working on fiction, memoir, essays, Substack newsletters, and other non-fiction.
My academic background is in English Literature, psychology, and philosophy. I have 20+ years experience in education and 15+ years as a consultant.
I am not a copy-editor or proofreader, nor do I provide manuscript mark up. These services are not focused on correcting grammar or polishing sentences line by line.
What I offer instead is thoughtful, structured feedback centred on the experience of the reader: what feels compelling, emotionally honest, intellectually clear, and where a piece may be losing force, clarity, or connection.
Sometimes that means thinking about narrative structure and pacing. Sometimes it means exploring voice, emotional depth, audience engagement, or the underlying questions a piece is really asking.
The aim is not simply to ‘improve’ writing in a technical sense, but to help writers better understand what their work is doing on the page.

Critical reading is more in-depth and analytical than beta reading. It is designed for writers who want closer engagement with structure, meaning, emotional impact, clarity of thought, or the relationship between writer and reader.
Creative consultancy will provide you with a writing critique partner, creative sounding board, accountability coach and supportive peer. It will be designed to suit your needs and your project.
I work with fiction, memoir, essays, Substack writing, and nonfiction projects that are personal, reflective, idea-driven, or exploratory in nature.
Because this work varies significantly depending on scope and level of engagement, critical reading and consultancy projects are priced individually.
